“Apollon” is the Sun God in Greek mythology. It is said that the Sun God “Apollon” is the son of Zeus, the chief god of Olympus, and Leto, the gentlest goddess. Currently, Amabuki Shuzo uses the names of ancient Japanese deities associated with the heavens, “Fujin” (Wind God) and “Raijin” (Thunder God). However, this time, the fusion of Japanese sake and blood orange—the meeting of Eastern and Western essences—led to the naming of this product after the Sun God “Apollon.”
Italian blood oranges are nurtured and ripened under the brilliant, shining sun. They are characterized by a passionate “Latin red” reminiscent of the Italian flag and a unique flavor, making them a representative of distinctive orange varieties. The secret of the deep red color lies in “Anthocyanin,” a type of polyphenol (antioxidant) also known as a component in red wine, which is said to be beneficial for vision and liver function.
The encounter between Italian “blood orange” and Japanese sake made with Amabuki Shuzo’s signature “Flower Yeast” (Hana Kobo) has given birth to a new kind of umeshu. The blood oranges, having bathed in the radiant sunlight, display that solar redness in their pulp, offering a mature taste, rich sweet and sourness, a seductive aroma that stirs the senses, and a pleasurable aftertaste with a hint of bitterness.
